No Tom, When and if I ever change to 15" I'll go with a metal wheel. Maybe something like black rim with Argent outer trim and baby moons. But I change my mind everyday  :003:
Baby moons instead of '57 dog dish hubcaps?!  :103:
I'm surprised that you don't already have 15" wheels.
I sure like your red/black paint scheme.

Thanks for all the input to date guys. I looked at the pics and I now think I am going to stay with the black! The silver doesn't look as "tough" as the black. I am also thinking I will stay with the 15" rims when I get the 8" wide rims for the back. Since I am planning on 5.25" back spacing The car will look like it has the same wheels front and rear. 275/60 tires are in my future too. They will be the same diameter as the 235/70's on it now.
I agree Lynn, black is the way to go. 275/60, will those fit or is your rear shortened?

dog dish would work for me it's just getting hard to find originals in good condition but it's still an option. I've been running the 14" cragars because they were free. Everyone seems to like them but me. I have to wear out the new tires before I change to 15". By then there may not even be 15" tires available anymore  :005:

Jim, I don't know why, but the Cragars sure DO work on your car! I love the stance and wheel/tires! I think it is the color combo and blackwalls. Cragars look odd on many other 1950s crusiers. I still like them. even had them on my 34 for a VERY short time. :003:

Lynn, now you start sounding reasonable again....why did you start this thread... :003:
No, I think you were completely right to ask for opinions and options. only to find out that what you have is great already.
You cannot go wrong with black 15s on your Custom ! the tires will be an interesting change though.  I love bias ply blackwalls, but those obviously are not a choice with an FE. I still think that too wide tires do not look good on a 50s Ford. Maybe you could get a 235 with taller sidewall like a 75. you definitely need to downsize your front tires.

Yeah, it seems like the full size hubcaps are more available than the DD ones.
This $40 pair of DD caps in Riaito don't look bad & they're not way overpriced.

Four for $180.  Two of 'em look pretty good.

If somebody feels rich they could go for this set of NOS caps @ $400.   :-\

Yes, I don't hate them but they are showing their age, probably from the 70's. I cleaned them once when I put them on and haven't touched them since, I have better use of time then polish chrome  :003: The other problem is finding good 14" tires and the back spacing on these only allows for 215 anything wider and they would be hitting the upper A arm.

I watch Evilbay all the time, prices and condition are all over the place. I only have 5000 miles on my new tires so I have plenty of time left to make decisions on what I'll do.

I have a set of PERFECT NOS dog dish and the ones on my car are nice. Two are practically perfect, one has the chrome flaking off the edge, and one has slight dings from studs that were a little too long. Jim, my measurements tell me the 275/60's should fit on 8" wheels in the rear IF they have a 5.25" back space. my axle is not narrowed and Tom, the wheels are 15 x 7 in the pictures. Guenter, I am not a fan of staggered tire/wheel sizes so at some point I may put the same size wheel/tire combo  in the front (if the back fits).

I prefer the same size front and rear also, it's all about the cornering  :002: If your new combination works out maybe I could use your old 15x7  :003:

I'm running an old set of Centerline auto drags on the rear that are 8.5 wide and 5.125 b/s. My tires are 255 /60/15's with a 10.8" section width. I trimmed about 3/8" off the fender lip just for a bit more room for cornering, speed bumps, etc. Your going to be really, really close with a 275 tire without rolling or trimming the lip. I'm interested to know how it works out as thats the size I want to go up to next.

I know I am on the ragged edge...that is why I thought 5.25 b/s would help (maybe). I measured what I have now and subtracted the extra 20mm on the outside and the 1" plus the 20mm on the inside. on paper it should work. I did trim the lip on one side to see how much that would help. The only question is whether or not a 275 mm section width is accurate. I measured a friend's 285 tire and it was substantially wider than 285 mm
