My first test drive on the street

I took my custom out onto the street today for the first time since I had bought it over 14 years ago.  As I stated earlier this one was always referred to as my "late model car" because I was too busy restoring my 34 Fords, so it was always on the back burner.  I did work on it off and on though.   It didn't just sit completely dormant.
I drove it to the first divided highway in America,  parked it in the middle of the road, got out and took some pictures. Everything went well with no major problems.  I did punch it twice while it was rolling in second gear and when the second  carburetor   cut in, it broke the tires loose both times.  That was impressive enough for me.
All of the major body work is done. Now if I can only finish the block sanding so I can squirt it.
Block sanding is seriously not my most favorite hobby.  It just never seems to get done.

That's an awesome feeling, kind of makes it all worthwhile,  Mark

It sure is a good feeling. That's the longest time it ever took me to get one up and driving.   Now I have it recorded. (06/20/13)   I still have to install the steering wheel that I got from you.  It's all restored and stored away.  Think I'll do it within the next few days.

Savery's Avenue is in Carver, Mass.   It is about 12 miles away from Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II ship. Some people refer to Plymouth as "America's Hometown".  Maybe this close up of the sign is easier to read.  They have to keep replacing the signs because people keep stealing them.

Ecode, congrats! How does it feel to finally scratch that itch? Your car is really looking good. Thanks, Tim

How many do you have now?  You should give some of them back.  I mean, really, how many of those signs does one guy need anyway?!

Congrats on getting the car going.
It will probably give you new enthusiasm & more incentive to keep at it & finish it up.

That first trip has to be the greatest feeling, congratulations. What trans are you using? That was always the weak link in my Chevy Killer.

They used to have the signs embedded in a block of granite and the people still dug them out.  The ones on top of the pole seem to last longer.  I guess that they never saw the movie Cool Hand Luke where Paul Newman went around with a huge pipe cutter cutting down parking meters.  Yes I do want to finish it this summer.

I didn't want to cut a hole in my nice floor for a four speed shifter so I installed a mid 60s three speed full synchromesh top loader and kept the three on the tree.  Now I can bring it back into first gear without  coming to a full stop.  In my opinion those transmissions are bullet proof so I got rid of the weak link.

I intend to paint it the white that is on the data plate.  That's why it is mostly jammed that color.  The second carb. is because it has a factory dual quad intake with progressive linkage on the engine.

Randy Conner did a cool thing with one of his 57s.  He has a 4 speed, column shift and the overdrive cable hooked to the reverse selector.  Pull the overdrive handle and it goes into reverse....

Good idea and exactly what I was thinking. I have a 4spd top loader but I'm enjoying the 3 on the tree and don't want the floor shifter. And a 3spd all syncro I saved from my 66 mustang when I put a 4spd top loader in it if I ever need it. But the standard 3 spd shouldn't be a problem since I don't drive like I did in my younger days  :003:. I can't remember how many of the stock trans I blew back then, but they were cheap and the junk yards had piles of them. I finally got a BW T85? 3psd overdrive from behind a 390, that thing was bullet proof and the overdrive was the icing on the cake. I'd would give anything to have one of those again..

OH, NOOO!
White shudder sucks!  Show some class, man!  I don't care what the data plate says, that car deserves to be BLACK!
