Really good Saturday, spent most of the day browsing around old town Scottsdale. After figuring out the proper McDonalds we found the cruise in. Really impressive when you consider they do it every Saturday night year round. Managed to hook up with Rich and spent an hour + kicking tires and comparing notes. Nice guy, really glad we were able to make connections. You know your conversation is going well when your wife is happy to take the keys and go wait it out in the car with her I-Pad.  Today it's off to the Harley shop to replace some worn out motor clothes then Mariners game at one.  Perfect weather, if it wasn't for missing the daylights out of my dog I'm not sure I would go home till May .

After I left Doug last night I went for one last walk around the cruise in before the hour long drive back home. Glad I did...I ran across a gentleman I have admired for a few years now and was hoping to someday meet at a show in Phoenix, as he is from this area. His name is Ernie Adams, and is known as "Mr. Dwarf car". There were some you tube videos last year of him driving a dwarf '49 Merc around. He hand builds drivable and street legal 3/4(?) size reproductions of cars from scratch. Totally awesome. check out his website. He has a museum about an hour south of Phoenix....gonna try and visit it before we leave. He had the '34 Ford at the cruise-in.

Also at the cruise-in was an awesome 58 retractable. As soon as I thanked him for displaying his car with either the top down or top up..not 1/2 way..we hit it off real well. I'll post some pics when I get home. He is friends with the Ford engineer who is credited with the design of the retractable roof. His dash is signed by him...Ben Smith, who also lives in the Phoenix area.

Left Phoenix at 8am yesterday, stopped for a break and dinner at a casino so we wouldn't be hitting the outskirts of Alburquerque at 5p.m. rush hour. pulled into Amarillo right at midnight. Lost 2 hours because of time changes...Az doesn't do the spring forward fall back thing. As I mentioned, got to meet Doug/57imposter and his wife, but Lorne and I just missed connecting. He got back into Phoenix Wednesday, and called Thurs morning, but we were already on the road. BTW, sorry about the bad cell phone connection and losing you, we were in the mountain pass area south of Flagstaff when you called...by the time I got closer to Flagstaff to call you back, I got no answer on your house phone. Hopefully the next time!
After I get out of Zombieland from the long drive, I'll post some pics and other info.

     I'm happy  that you had a safe trip and that everything went well.  I sure do miss the Scottsdale cruise.  I have lost of good memories of that place when I was staying out there for a while.   Do you remember the  fellow that hand built the two miniature cars?  Does he still show up at the cruise?    Jay

Note the first pic looks like a normal size car. He has 6 or 8 finished now. His friend is also doing it, and will have a 54 chev done in 2 years.

Some more pics from the Pavillion cruise. This '58 retractible was awesome. The signature on the dash is the Ford engineer who is credited with designing the roof mechanism. He also lives in phoenix. I love the mirrors on this car..he said oem '58.
Not sure if the Ranchero was a '57 or '58....the trim is obviously '58. I love that edsel front end.

   Ernie is amazing.   I remember his telling me that he used refrigerator doors and panels for stock to build his first miniature cars.  That 34 looks just like the real car.

I have a pair of those mirrors, bought them awhile back from a guy along with a 57 grille. will need rechroming, will use them unless something better comes along.

Rich those are aftermarket "Yankee Metal Products", not sure when they started production of that style nor when they ended it, had a set on that wagon I had.

Thanks Bill, I thought it was a little strange when the owner told me they were oem....think I had only seen a set once before. I guess I won't need to look at the reproductions distributors for a set.

Jeff...I think you have me confused with someone else..I live in North Texas.
Good thing about that weather wise is we're only a one long day's drive away from good weather, winter or summer.
