Wow, those look great, Jeff. They look like they also have a zinc phosphate coating to keep them from rust flashing, which is great, BUT, and this is a big but, make sure when it's time for epoxy primer that the metal is jitterbugged down to shiney metal, or you will have major adhesion problems, That's including the undersides, and anything that will get the epoxy primer. That said, imho, that's the only way to fly because you really need that zink stuff in all the cracks and crevasses and pores.

Yes Rich... I had long conversations with Tom(painter) on this prior to getting the metal stripped... he has taken that and treated everything down to bare metal and coated all with a epoxy primer..... sorry. got no pics.
Back years ago. when metal stripping became popular... sometimes the stripper was not properly neutralized,... and it would start to re-appear after paint.... leeching from the folds and small crevices. That was a major concern for me.
The cost was cheap. and in the last few years... the process has changed somewhat(around here anyhow....) not the same chemicals they used in previous years.
Both Tom the painter and the chemical stripper guy spoke to me about this.... but after 2 minutes,.... My eyes glazed over and they lost me. ha ha.

Anyhow,Tom the painter neutralized everything again in his shop a few days after i dropped the stuff off.
Tom had some small pin-hole work to take car of on the front lower corners of each door and very small pinholes to weld up on a small 2 inch section of the deck lid below the key hole.
The items are now epoxy primer sitting in his backroom.

I tend to sit and listen to Tom,instead of telling him how to prep and paint.... hahaha. that would not go over well.

Looking so good and clean ! Gives us an image of what those looked like in 1957, before paint and 60 yrs of decay.
Filling the trim holes came out nice - no way to hide anything in bare metal! Are you sure that the 57 isn't heading in the same show rod direction as your Deuce coupe ? :002:

G,... Your absolutely right!.... After finding some unexpected and unpleasant surprises on the car....I was convinced by Tom the Painter to strip the doors and Deck lid this way..... also... since Tom is a fanatic in his ongoing war against corrosion.... his cost would have been far greater to clean each piece down to BM than just the way of the stripper. As I mentioned to Rich previously..... I was not convinced.... but  I relented and I now Believe.
This is the question with old cars.....(or old anything).... where do you stop?.... Gloss it all over with Bondo?.... Fix and replace metal panels but leave other areas un-attended?.... It just keeps migrating and never stops....  I do love shop time.. but I enjoy wheel time much more.... and ... that for me is the end goal.hahahah.

So.. no. the 57 will never go the way of my early Fords..I mentally can't handle that...burned out from all those years of complete disassembly and re-assembly.... over and over and over..... Some very much enjoy the process...I have gone past that point....Can't say i will never do it again..but not on this car.Hopefully(fingers crossed)..I should be driving this summer.... but life is CRAZY busy.
I keep speaking to Tom the painter about Paint.....I want a level of a production car from 57.. no more,no less..... I just want a nice old car.

At this point in time... we are settling the 428 and trans into the car... I will get pics when possible....

Funny you mentioned about the drum kit in Toms shop... my Brother in law(Jeff) is a drummer too... they both proceeded to sit down and Jam!

As life wasn't busy enough..I have been working on my studio above the garage as well..... building palette walls at each end and mocking up barrel lighting....
In-between car time/work time and all important Family time.

Sounds like everything is in very capable hands.......just as I would expect from a Norwell associate!! I posted those comments more for others seeing the pics, as the "grey" coating showed up very well in those pics, if you know what to look for. It's not at all like shiney metal.
I can do this, I can do this, I, well, maybe

Doors, deck lid, hood and fenders are all in Bodyshop Hell still. but I am picking up a few items to test fit soon..... Engine and trans are ready for install. but.. that may be a few weeks away with everyones schedule that is involved.... Mine included....

I imagine when the final steps get close.. it will go pretty fast(yea... famous last words)

Work has been heavy and steady... but building my studio above the Garage has been priority 1.
Should be finally completed within the next 2-3 weeks....

I knew this whole move-resettle business was going to take pretty much a year.. lots of work,.. but we love it.

carry on.

WOW! What a nice studio and shop. Those solid mounted overhead lights would be illegal in Calif. Wondering about the block off plate for the road draft tube on the back of the manifold, I don't see any other provision for breathing?

I am picking up a PCV breather today to install into the block off plate Jim.
Curious..why.. would solid mounted overhead lights be illegal?

OK PCV, sorry things like that just catch my eye.
I did something similar to yours and it wouldn't past inspection, the wiring has to be in flexible conduit. I'm sure it's just an earthquake thing here for that regulation.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!
