What is needed to convert my '57 Custom from it's original 223 6 cylinder with a three speed stick to a Y block with a 3 speed stick?  I'd like to keep the same transmission if possible.  I've seen some talk on here of the core support being in a different position 6 vs. V8.  I'm aware I will need a new radiator and planned on purchasing one from Auto City.

Is there anything else I need to consider besides motor mounts and the radiator?

Thanks

The core support is the same, the difference is the radiator mounting flange. Do you have the Y block bell housing/flywheel/clutch? Trans will work fine, I think the 223 trans had a little lower gear ratio in 1st and 2nd, 3rd gear will be the same. Lots of little stuff, reroute fuel line, generator wiring, throttle linkage etc..

I was under the impression the bell housing/flywheel/clutch were the same 223/y block.  Are they different?

The bell housing is different, the flywheel and clutch for a 223 is a 9 1/2" disc and pressure plate.

That's good and valuable info.  It means I'll be trying to source a few more items for my build.
