When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

Could you imagine having all these people sitting on the fenders of modern cars? The fenders on new cars are about as thick as a soda can, they would probably be rubbing on the tires! The hood on my 2010 Rangers has dents from falling pine cones, I doubt the hood of my old 74 F350 would dent like that is a whole branch fell on it.
1959 Meteor 2 door sedan , 428 Cobra Jet 4 speed. Been drag racing Fords (mostly FEs) 47 years and counting.
Previous 50s Fords include 57 Custom 4 door, 2 57 Ford Sedan Deliveries, 59  Country Sedan, and as a 9 year old, fell in love with the family 58 2 door Ranch Wagon.

congratulations on your purchase Joe, that is a neat little vintage Flat motor !
I think that you are spot on with your observations. ( 37 221 21std). truck pumps also have longer hose spouts.
'39 had the 239 24std introduced with Mercury, which also came with Fords for 1940 (introducing larger main and rod bearings). some of them have the raised cast intake area.
It's easy to know a 39-41 24std from a post war 59A. if the ridge in the block above the timing cover holds a pencil. it's pre war. if the block looks rather slant in the front it's post war. You need to know a Native Flathead lover to find that kind of secret information !  :002: :003:

this was a 1937 because of the block mounted water pumps and that it the steel heads and dual groove pulleys made it the truck motor

it seems yours also has the second vertical oil feed hole for a bypass type oil filter ( HD/truck/accessory).
It'll be interesting to see if it has a 9" or 10" clutch.
only up to mid of 1936 21 stds had main babbit bearing. insert mains were introduced mid year , known as LB blocks ( L arge B earing)

your engine also has the super nice original cast exhaust manifolds, that will work great for a hot rod build, clearing steering gear and such.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.
I just got a call from Jay and he shed a little more insight on the mill I bought which made me feel a lot better about my purchase.
We spoke for a bit and I I told him I also picked up a literally, brand new 1939 Ford Deluxe hood that was purchased over the counter from Ford and never placed  on a vehicle from the same guy. There was nothing wrong with mine, but for the money, if something ever happened to mine, I could never replace it. I promised him I would post a couple of pics.

That picture looks like it must be across the big pond somewhere.  The traffic is going in the wrong direction.
