When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

A local historian thinks this could have been Bill Ireland or Les Ritchey's Thunderbolt.
I remember it running back in the day.

Bill Carson.... isn't that the guy Angel Eyes was trying to find?   :003:

Seriously though, I wonder what happened to that car? Did it get restored or junked?

Randy, if you are refering to the photo of Gary Wanless`s Thunderbolt, the car got cut up, and the body/chassis scrapped. I met Gary many years ago, and he showed me a bunch of photos, first the car was factory looking, then progresses to the altered wheelbase version in that photo, he then built a Cougar Funny Car, using the 427 running gear from the Thunderbolt, and scrapping whatever was left over. Keep in mind, by the later 60s, cars like the Thunderbolt were basically older, non competitive cars, with no real value any more. In the mid-late 70s, there was a guy from Bellingham Washington racing a real Thunderbolt at Mission Raceway, and when Mission shut down at the end of the 1978 season, Larry, the TBolt owner put the Thunderbolt up for sale, turnkey, with towbar setup, running 11.4s with a 428 and C6, for $4500. Us, which was basically at par with the Canadian dollar at that time. I seriously considered getting a bank loan to buy the car, but with the local race track gone, and me in the middle of moving to an apartment, it really was not practical. Now, the aluminum front bumper would likely be worth $4500. by itself!
