thanx guys, great insight !!! so it was based on market decisions.
I have owned 2 Ford of Canada cars before. my 57 Sedan Delivery looked like a US model except for the VIN Tag and rear door handle. I don't know if they were produced in Canada that way or somebody along the way changed some items to US specs (it was registered and running in California).
my 62 Mercury Comet was also built in Canada with Euro export specs ( kmh speedo), but it looked exactly like a US model (except for the speedo and odometer of course). it had a Ford of Canada code tag.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz and their looong, looooooooong trailer.....hahaha. the cooking scene with her in the trailer while on the road, with all the flour and stuff flying around is just hilarious !

Here's some more trivia for the Long, Long Trailer, movie.

They used both Mercury's and Lincoln's during the filming.  They were both painted the same, but if you look closely the trims are different.

Check out the accessory Slimp Wheel (dolly) they used to carry the tongue weight of the trailer when it's being pulled by the bumper hitch on the car.

The movie was filmed in Modesto, CA. residential scenes.  The mountain scenes were done in Lone Pine, CA. just off highway 395.  The road was on the way to the start of the trail up to MT. Whitney.  All of the old cowboy western movies were shot at the base of this same mountain in Lone Pine.   The turn in the road is still there, just like in the movie, and it's a really steep, switch back, very scary even today.

This movie is a timeless classic.  Anybody that has had there wife "help them" with directions to back up a trailer can appreciate the humor of the writer's.

Life in the 50s and 60s

Having been around to live during the 50's & 60's...I think they were better days than today. The cars were certainly better looking! Especially our 57 Fords! (yea...I'm prejudiced about the cars!)   :002:
