You do know that Champion is most closely associated with Bow-Tie products...right? At least here in the states. 

57 Fords came with Champion plugs, GM cars used AC ..

I would assume after the war Rich.... 46-48..... since the listings go all the way to 1941 in years.....  Yes. pretty sad about Sears...

I remember pricing them in the early to mid 60's at $120-$125. I bought a '49 with a rebuilt motor for $90. That was in Sept 65.

When I started messing with cars in 69...Autolite was the Fords plug from the factory, and Champions and AC's were the ones I saw in the other 3 brands. (GM, Chrysler and American Motors.) I still run the FoMoCo plugs and sometimes Autolites as well.

Yes, Ford bought Autolite in 1961 and used them in the later years but all the early Fords before that used Champions. Standard plug for 57 was Champion 870.

Well there ya' go! In '57 I was only 4...although I hear I was a terror on my trike, I hadn't started in on cars yet! LOL!!!

I have nothing but good to say about Champion. I run them in ALL of my Fords and Volkswagen, and everything inbetween. I even had American Champions in my Mercedes 250 S instead of og German Bosch !
they run a little hotter than other brands, but haven't had a fouled Champion in decades.

I run nothing but Autolites in my Fords, I was just stating that Champions were standard in Fords until they acquired Autolite.. So your Champion fender cover is actually period correct.

you are right, Jay. If I knew then what I know today I wouldn't have sold that one. It was a very solid and dry car, nice rockers, solid quarter panels and great floorboards. I believe it has never been welded before. it had some really neat details. colored glass, black carpet, black real leather seats and tuckn roll panels. a gloss black dashboard and chromed garnish moldings all around! One thing I clearly remember is that you would get small electric shocks when touching the horn ring in summer. when driving in a t shirt and left arm on the chromed door garnish molding it would draw some small current that you could actually feel on the skin. ( horn didn't honk though by just touching the horn ring.....hahaha....). There will always be fond memories and a soft spot in my heart for that car !
