Randy...wonder if that really was a Shelby or they just stuck those lights in there because he did?
wish they still had that car...it is not one of the ones they have kept around. They do have some pretty nice ones though that they did hang on to.
Great pic...thanks!

Upper and lower side scoops, fiberglass hood with scoops, roll bar, driving lights, hood pins.... I'm guessing it's a real 1967 GT500.
When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

My sister had a 1967 GT 500 back in the 70's and it had the outboard driving lights. Apparently it would differ state to state which way you got the driving lights. I personally like the outboard style.

Joe...I think so too. Just that we have never heard anything about them having had it. (I lived in Olympia for 33 years where the cars are kept and the handlers talk about the fun ones.) Guess they didn't keep it around so no one thinks about it.

Randy...yea..I remember reading that some states had different rules about where the lights could be put.,..which frustrated Shelby. Other states didn't care.

No different than our 57's; the Feds as well as most states didn't allow dual headlights until 1958

Well...to be honest....those were add-ons...and they were considerably brighter than headlights. LOL!!!
But yea...first car I can think of that had 4 headlight scheme was the '58 Ford. Never thought about it before. Good point.

I believe a lot of 1957 models were already designed for quad headlights but weren't allowed yet. The downsized the second set as driving lights, like on a 57 Dodge f.e.

No WSP markings on the door? I'm thinkin' that Mustang could be a privately owned car.

Very possible. State Patrol cars both then and now have license plates that begin with WSP in their numbering. Especially in that era there were no "plain brown wrapper" cars. No lights of any sort on it or at least visible either.
That shot was taken at the Martin Way WSP office back when Martin way was only a chip-seal 2-lane road with on-street parking.
The building isn't there anymore...shopping strip mall there now. Maybe it had been impounded after a hard chase...and he was the impounding officer who chased it.
The state used to issue plates with the first letter designating the county of origin. I don't remember what "O" was, but I do know it wasn't Thurston County...which is where that pic was taken. I think it might have been Grays Harbor County which is west of Thurston. Thurston was "G" plates mostly.

I wondered about license plate too.  Sounds like WA does it the same as here.  AST prefix on the Alaska State Trooper's plates.
Was thinkin' the cop in the pic probably owned the car.

Could be...he looks like he was pushing in close to retirement age. Maybe that was his gift to himself.

Speaking of GT 500s ...
Just in, the original movie car 'Eleanor' is going up for auction.
