Hey Joe! I used that inflation calculator you gave us...and put in the price of gas back in '70...and then hit the calculate button. BOY are we getting ripped off today!

In 1970...I was paying $0.25 per gallon in San Diego. Today...in WA state we pay about $3.15 to $3.50 per gallon. According to the calculator...we should be paying around...$1.66!!!

Methinks we are getting ripped off a touch!   :-[ :'( :( :( :o

Hugh, you are...here in Texas we're about 2.15 this week for regular. On most of my roadtrips, I'll see oil rigs pumping away all over, not sure if that has anything to do with it......probably not as I can't remember the last refinery I saw. I think it was in Socal 40 years ago.

Rich, our fuel price may go up now that the refinery blew up in Port Neches last night. My cousin came through last week from California and said they paid over 4.00 per gallon for regular unleaded.

I check the highest/lowest places in SoCal every once and a while. Yesterday the high was 5.49 at Olympic and Fairfax. The low was 3.99 at Costco..

Whoa.......I think that alone would be enough to move eastward. Since I've been in Amarillo (2003), gas prices generally here are lower than anywhere else on my roadtrips. I always make sure I fill up before heading out.
Kirby (Kerby?)...I finally found some info on the internet about that explosion. It was a chemical plant, not refinery, so may not affect gas prices.

Regular gas here dropped to $1.99 earlier this year. Not real sure what it is today. I run premium in all 3 cars so I don't pay close attention to regular prices. I always thought that cost differences depended on state regulations and taxes.

Gas in the leftist states is indeed high due to taxes. The LOVE their taxes. Here in WA and down in CA the highest gas taxes in the country. Our legislature in WA is going back into session in January...I won't be surprised to see them raise gas taxes again. I can honestly say I will not miss living here anymore after 47 years of this malarkey!

The idiot leftists didn't realize that electric and other high mileage vehicles would result in less gas tax collected.

Btw regular gas in Md is $2.35  With all the oil production in the US gas should be about $1.60 +/-

The Saudis keep cutting prices to try to bankrupt the Dakota oil fields so prices should stay low for a while.

If we still drove vehicles that got 9-10 mpg nobody would driving or driving much less anyways. So it would be kind of a wash in taxes collected.
