And that is exactly why it has such a unique look to it, Tom ! The dropped tube axle is refreshing to see and also the custom made curved stainless spring shackles/brackets. I really like it a lot !

Quote from: Tom S on 2023-09-14 03:56Thanks! It's not really much different from others like it except for the dropped 1937 oval tube axle & maybe those brackrts. It's very, very rare to see a Ford oval tube axle that has been dropped. I took off the straight triangle shaped shackle/shock brackets that had peeling chrome on them & made the curvy shaped ones out of stainless, drilled a hole in the center, polished 'em up & put 'em on with stainless hardware. They look much better & will stay that way.

I must have taken that pic a day or two after another one of our big earthquakes & before the earth re-leveled it's drunken self.

This pic would have been a good one to use for one of those YouTube vids of the Hot Rod Race tune. It certainly would have been  accurate to the time that that tune came out. If you searched for that tune you may have seen the one showing a life-like drawing of a smokin' hot babe in short shorts bending over the open hood of one of those brand X things that many call 'Tri-fives'. I'd post the pic here if it didn't have that car in it. I'd probably get banned! Don't know what the babe was expected to do under the hood with the giant combination end wrench in her hand. It looks to be damn near 18 inches long. If I had a the right pic of a '57 Ford sittin' at the right angle with its hood up I could do a little photo trickery to post here.
BTW that '31 A-bone better be runnin' a real hot flatty V8 if he thinks he's gonna outrun that '49 Merc. Then again like the old saying says, 'You cant outrun Motorola'.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

Tom, my '49 has the original type rearend which is a 3.96. that is very low gearing. It means the Merc is quick off the traffic light. I don't know about top end speed. Whether or not if the fiery teapot carb is able to deliver higher rpms ?? probably yes ? I may find out...I plan to put a Flathead back in the 49. I have an og teapot carb and manifold and an NOS carb overhaul kit. Let's see if it leaks and put the car on fire... :003:

I think that the guy driving that sedan is cheating.  He must have some sort of a 1950s low flying device attadhed to that 2dr sedan.  Is it a 1940?

Yeah. I don't see a bump or anything else that could make that thing jump anyway near that high. I thought it was a 1939 or 40 but seeing that the engine compartment sides are open leads me to believe that it is a 1937 or 38 which have hoods much like car number 8 right behind it. The hoods on 39s & 40s wrap around the upper part of the cowl & wouldn't leave that much of the engine compartment sides open.

Could have been a different pass.  Looks like the front tires are both flat with more damage I would suspect.

Makes a hell of an air cleaner, lol. I smile because yesterday, at a car show I was parked beside a rat rod that had an actual tool box as an air cleaner. :burnout:  :burnout:
