Transmission Swap Help

 I am looking into swapping out my Transmission on a 57 meteor Ranchero. 312 Engine. Can anyone advise if there is a newer transmission that will fit without doing work on the tanny tunnel?

What type transmission is in it currently?

Tunnel mods are the least of issues for transmission upgrades.

Original Ford o Matic 2 Speed I believe.

There are no later automatic transmissions that will bolt up to the Y.  Any thing like an AOD will require an adapter.  It will fit without cutting up the tunnel.

I have tried the 4R70W. It would not fit without Tunnel modifications. SO which model AOD will fit?

None of the OD automatics will fit.  How about an FMX?  Think those fit on a Y block Fordomatic bellhousing IIRC...

The AOD, AODE and 4R70 will fill without tunnel mods.  These transmissions will not fit Y-Block unless an adapter is used.  An AOD has been in my Raunch Wagon for more than 6 years with no tunnel modifications.

Know what years and bodies the non-computerized AOD were made?  I prefer sticks always, but wife can't figure them out.

'80-'92 cars and some trucks went on to '95

My 302 equipped 93 F150 short bed had the long tail shaft AOD with the TV cable.
