Guys, it seems you are somewhat better off. vacc is very slow in continental Europe. no getherings are allowed in the public at all. except 2 persons or households. some regions of my country incl our capitol Vienna are back to curfew. all car shows as far as July and even some in Spetember have already been canceled.
No curfew in my town, but basically- there is nowhere to go. Shops are open but I don't care for shopping at all. all restaurants are shut down since before Christmas. Some offer food to go, but only pre order and select few.
social dancing has (naturally) been prohibited for over a year now. Not even allowed with a dancer couple.
Add to that it has been freezing and polar winds.

it sucks.

I'm in general, pissed!  My government has asked me to wear a mask, distance and avoid groups.  I'm fortunate to be retired.  I can stay home and still get paid.  I have tons of stuff to do in the shop.  I am a part time loner and don't really miss people that much.  As I watch the economy collapse and debt pile up, I wonder who's in charge.  There seams to be no leadership that makes consistent plans, decisions, or recommendations.  Many small businesses are restricted but not the big stores.  Airlines...business as usual.  Public grade schools are open for business.  March Madness and the Masters have record attendance.  The vaccine is available so everything rushes to open.  Spring break areas were packed.  Michigan's numbers have skyrocketed.  Schools are implementing a 'pause' after spring breaks.  Small businesses are bracing for more restrictions.  For some time now, I have considered complete shut down.  If our government had any balls they would shut down everything for three weeks.  I just watched an infectious disease specialist recommending shut downs be considered. These viruses are not traveling by themselves.  They are traveling on the backs of people.  Stop traveling!  Quit expecting other people to do it for you.  There are so many exceptions that there are no restrictions!

Sorry Gary, but I don't think you are loner. There are a lot of guys on this forum that think like you. It is a common sense thing,[what is common sense ]. As far as who is in charge, when they are brain dead from the Ass up who knows. Set back and have an adult beverage and remember you are not alone.

Without the stamina for a long day and with nicer weather, the screened porch is the late afternoon hangout.  A shot or two bourbon takes the edge off for a little nap (just 5 minutes) before dinner.  I sure see now what my grandparents saw in the summer time, early evening porch sittin'.

Gary, I enjoy the rural setting of my home, and the peace and quiet that it offers. Especially after my job taking me to urban settings on a daily basis. I think Michigan and Wisconsin governors are in way over their heads!  Mark

The most feared words in the world......"Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help"!  We as a people have put our selves in the very situation we are in.  We as a people have grown dependent on the government to "fix" all the wrongs.  If you take a good long hard look at all the "fixes" they have provided you will find those that worked can be counted on one hand and have leftovers.

I'm old school (old fashioned) as my kids will say.  Well I'm here to tell you if you can't take care of yourself uncle sugar will "help" you out and you most likely won't like the results.  Navy ships are a good example.  Out there in the middle of the ocean if something goes wrong there is no "posse" to call in, you sink or swim.  So we learn how to fix stuff so we can get home.

Having said all that, when the Covid hit everybody was running scared.  "Experts" said there would be 3 - 4 million dead in the U.S. alone.  All the "experts" miss information caused more confusion and miss trust then can be counted.  They, the government, had to do something.  Be it right or wrong, they had to do something.  So we are where we are now.

Who had the right answers and who had the wrong answers?  Jury is still out on that.  But there are a couple of examples to look at.  FL and CA had two different approaches to "controlling" things.  Funny thing, the infection rate and the death rate are real close to the same.  CA was locked down hard, FL was open pretty wide.  The rate of infections in TX is going down despite the "neanderthal" thinking of the governor.  Meanwhile the infection rates in CA, NY, DE, IL and MI are going up?  Europe locked down hard at first, their infection rate fell, they opened back up and their infect rate skyrocketed.  What is the correct answer?

I'm a strong believer in sunshine and fresh air.  I also believe there is a large amount of the population that is already immune and would never have the covid.  I am retired, I don't have to "go out" but did just that.  I continued to live life as much as could be lived within the restrictions imposed, we traveled to visit with family.  We used common sense (I know an original thought) with respect to gatherings outside of the immediate family and friends.  Yup, life goes on and we will be back on the road again in a couple of months........

Off my soap box now.

Samples of things that the government has run so efficiently? Post office...AmTrak...Social Security...
If the government "fixes" something you can bet that it will break soon and often and worse than before the "fix".

I don't even think of it as ours.  I think of it as our grandkid's, if the country can survive the debt!

Think of it like this, as the fear of a pandemic began, we were told masks didn't do a thing to protect us and that we could get covid easily from surfaces.  Now we're told masks are the keeping us from spreading the virus and there is a very low chance of catching covid from surfaces.  If they had a brain, they'd probably be playing with it!

Mask makers probably had a strong lobby that kicked in to gear after the statement that they wouldn't protect us. Look at the millions if not billions that have been made on masks...especially the throw-away ones...which you now see littering every parking lot in America.

Very true, but I think our kids and grandkids will be having bigger problems then just money..

Blue Blood, I was just thinking about that very saying earlier " hi I'm from the government and I'm here to help you!
Well stated comments. (soap box)!

I know in the past, politics has had a post or two of mine removed, so I'll keep it short.

One of things my dear old dad taught me was: "Remember son, the government can not give you something unless they take it away from someone else first".

Just my $0.02
When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!
