I've always liked the look when they exit behind the rear wheel with a turndown instead of out behind the bumper. I may change mine if there's enough room to go between the frame / leaf spring.

I took mine out to the bumper and put polished 2.5" turndowns on.

I have hesders on my 351c 4v in my 57.  They are for a 70 Mustang with 351c...fit like they were made for the car, no dents, no dings...my mufflers are 3 inch pipes to 2 chambered flowmasters, dumps, no tailpipes.

All this exhaust talk brought back an old memory for me. My dad had a 57 Fairlane when I was 15 or 16 years and whenever I washed it I would run water up the exhaust trying to make the factory muffler rust out so it would be louder , I cant remember that it worked.

I am going to run a Porter muffler set up on mine. You can have them built to any size in length you chose and pretty much for $100 per muffler.
While in Detroit this past weekend, I managed to be at the Ford Motorsports display, they had a new HI-End Boss Stang flipped on its side to reveal the under carriage. The exhaust was X-piped and the mufflers were a Borla-Ford motorsports combo. But the mufflers were at the very back, exiting at the rear of the car under the rear bumper section.I understand this is where Vettes have theres too.I had a discussion with a Ford tech at the show and their testing indicates this is where maximum power is achieved.I wonder if this can be possible on our older cars?
I plan on using a Porter because of it's narrow body and custom length.

If you don't have a picture of that Porter muffler, then it doesn't exist.
Is is anything like a porter wall for tires? HAHA    Jay

Jeff, that's exactly what I was taught years ago by a buddy of mine who built/raced sprint cars. He really knew a lot about every aspect of building cars for both street and track.  And as long as there's room out back its my preference just as long as its not visible from behind. To me a crusty muffler hanging across the rear is as attractive as a full diaper on a toddler. Other than a set of fenderwells the only part of an exhaust system I want to see is a pair of tips.

Will check out that Mustang system when my wife's 2015 GT gets here.
