The Hot Rod is a 32 Ford sdn. the other sedan is either a 35 or 36 Ford, I am guessing a 35, according to the steeper slant on the bumper end and 16" wire wheel. It appears as if all of the grill and hood has been ripped of the car. Not an accident you would want to have in one of those tin cans without belts, safety door latches and laminated glass. it appears as if the 32 had a laminated windshield though, maybe it's just the flashlight. that looks like zero tire tread left on the hot rod front....

I believe that you are correct about the sedan on it's side.   The 36 to 39 wheels  are somewhat similar to Volkswagen with their wide bolt pattern.  In 1940 they went back to the 5 X 5 1/2" bolt pattern
Cobra Joe has the wide bolt pattern on his beautiful all steel brand new 39 Ford coupe.

true, Jay ! that would make it a 35 !

thx guys for clueing me in on the 300 rear glass trim. I honestly never observed that neat detail.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in the last seven years!

Great pic ! in my mind the Falcon is one of Fords greatest cars ever built ! the aerodynamics, unibody and economy little 144cui six combined with that compact size body would even make it a winner in todays world. I managed to get over 30mpg from my 62 Comet.

It's hard to believe that introduction photo is 60 years old.  Where did the time go?  You pay more now for a set of nice wheels and tires, than that car sold for in 1960.  In just a couple of years, that utility car would be re-skinned into a Shelby GT 350.

As car guys...........we lived during the most exciting era.

CobraJoe

So true on both points John....  :sad3:

We had fish and chips from that fish shack this week.
That is it for the tour of British Columbia, working on some beauties from farther east.

Now that is a sweet pic !
I never observed that upper 300 chrome trim on the backlite. It appears to be 'hooded' or is this some kind of accessory 'ventshade' type of add on ? Maybe down in LA they can make good use of some sunshade now and then ? Lynn, Eugene ? What is your opinon.
the 53 Mercury has them on the door glass.

I have one of those nice ss strips on the back of my old plain Jane 57.  I took it out today for a  drive along Savery Aveue.
For those who don't know,  It's the first divided highway in the US.
Sent you a picture of the back strip from (my slow motion) tablet  You might get it in a couple of days.   Jay

Cobra Joe are you familiar with Savery Ave?  You have to drive past it every time that you come to see me.  JA

CobraJoe

It sounds familiar......  :003:

I think you might know the photographer.
